In cooperation with Startup Estonia, law firm Hedman Partners organised a private evening meeting at the end of January with the executive director of the Boston start-up accelerator TechStars and acclaimed angel investor Semyon Dukach. During the discussion which took place in the cosy Gloria wine cellar, tens of Estonian business angels and investors were able to openly discuss investing criteria, success stories, failures and personal experiences in regard to investing into start-up companies with Mr. Dukach. Semyon Dukach is a technology investor, who was born in Moscow, but who obtained his education from top universities in the USA and whose portfolio currently consists of over 70 different investments. In the discussion which turned out to be almost two hours long and was led by Indrek Kasela, two ideas were prominent: firstly, if business angels are good to their start-ups, then start-up companies are also good to their angels and secondly, that the main criteria for angel investors, when making an investment, is the team’s ability to cooperate and the nature of their individual personalities.
